Driving from the grocery store last week, I came u Driving from the grocery store last week, I came upon a sight that made me speechless.

The sun had almost set, and the clouds were turning pink and lavender in the western sky. But the sky was still a pale blue, and the bright ivory moon sat so huge and close, I felt like I could touch it.

I had seen this supermoon several times. But I had never seen anything like this. There was a reason for this. Yesterday, the moon was full and it also reached its closest point to the earth in its orbit.

It was just one of those God moments for me. The kind that bring you to your knees in praise. The kind that wow your soul.

Looking at that moon, I was again reminded that “by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, . . . all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1: 16-17)

Looking at that magnificent moon, so astonishingly placed in the heavens, held together by the hand of my God, I had to ask:

Is there anything in this messy world or our messy lives that he cannot hold together? He who holds the moon and the stars in place, can he not also hold all things together until his coming?

(I was driving so of course I did not take a photo. But this is an older picture that almost captures that moment!)
Take a look at this photo, which I took while visi Take a look at this photo, which I took while visiting the Nathan Hale house and museum. Do you know what this is?

I know, this has nothing to do with the Bible! But I love history in general, and culinary insights in particular (hint hint). Which is why I find this fascinating.

So did you guess?

This is tea! It has been compressed into a tea brick.

They used these to transport tea over land from China. I doubt that bricks like this would actually have been used in the Nathan Hale household. Most revolutionary-minded Americans had boycotted tea by then and turned to herbal infusions or coffee, instead. Americans loved tea when they could get it, but in loose leaf form, not as a brick.

Still, the brick is fascinating, isn’t it? It could be used instead of money in the far East, and apparently, you could break off a piece and fry it in butter. And it looks beautiful!

Having said that, I will stick to my loose leaf tea!
